As investigations revealed, the domain had direct references to his name and email ID. The Amazon cloud hosting service AWS also shared information that directly linked Napolsky to Z-Library. As the investigators also came to know, Napolsky also placed at least 21 orders with one of his Amazon accounts, with payments made using Amazon gift cards that were donated by Z-Library members. The addresses mentioned were those from Saint Petersburg, Russia. As it turned out, Napolsky had two Amazon accounts which again were registered using his personal phone number. Similarly, information obtained from Amazon also turned out to be much the same. Further, Napolsky used his personal e-mail id to register and records reflect that a Russian-based telephone number ending in – 2458 (‘Napolsky Phone-1’) was used to register the email as well as the emails and the complaint revealed. For instance, his personal phone number was found linked to the Z-Library email addresses.
Both have since been arrested from Argentina and chances are that they will be deported to the US for further investigation.įrom the information that the FBI had access to, Anton Napolsky used personally identifiable information like personal e-mail addresses and phone numbers to link to the Z-Library domains on several occasions. Also, from what the investigators revealed, tracking down the owners of what came to be known as the world’s largest digital library proved to be much simpler than they might have thought. As TorrentFreak reported, active co-operation from companies like Google and Amazon helped the FBI in tracking the activities of the company as well as its Russian owners.
